The Emergency Australia HLT21020 Certificate II in Medical Service First Response is an intensive practical course, enabling course graduates entry into a wide range of first responder roles.

During the intensive practical session, learners are trained and assessed using the SIMMAN 3G.

This course has been designed by former military and emergency response personnel, to equip students with the clinical skills and knowledge, to perform first response roles in a range of sectors.

In order to prepare students for real-world emergencies, we have made this course hands-on and scenario-intensive.  As an Emergency Australia learner, you will be immersed in scenarios using high-fidelity manikins and skills stations to build your confidence and capability as a first responder.

Learners will have access to our online coursework and will be required to complete a number of knowledge-based assessments before attending the intensive practical. Refer to our course overview for details on pre-course commitments.

Course Dates

We have an opportunity for learners to enrol now and complete their practical on 4th June – 8th June 2024 at Kiama, NSW.  The venue is the Uniting Church Kiama, 48 Manning Street Kiama NSW 2533.

Completion of this course may also impact upon student contribution fees (if and where applicable). Units of Competency

During this course learners will complete 5 core units and 4 electives consisting of: 

Core:

CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people

HLTAID011 Provide first aid

HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control

HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment

Electives:

HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems

BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately

HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid

HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy*

* Note that in order to complete HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy, you must first achieve competency in HLTAID011 Provide first aid.

Delivery:

Blended delivery consisting of up to 50* hours of online precourse work (reading, self-learning and assessment) with 5 days face to face training and assessment. 

* Hours will vary depending upon any Credit Transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning applied.

Investment:

Total: $2500

Instalment 1: $1500 On enrolment

Instalment 2: $1000 Paid before course commencement. This amount will be sent via invoice.

Note that currency periods apply to first aid (HLTAID) units of competency. To be awarded Credit Transfer you must be within your currency period.

Should you be granted Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer, you will not be required to complete all of the above units of competency. Refer to the course overview for more information on CT/RPL.
